While long haul flights in summer time are usually the signifier of good things to come – holidays, digital detoxes and beers at 30,000 feet – they just don’t do men’s skincare and grooming any favours. Planes are a reduced oxygen environment where the relative humidity is as low as 10-15% (that’s three times drier than the Sahara desert!). In an average ten-hour flight, men can lose approximately two liters of water. To put that in perspective, that’s four liters – 8% of your bodily water – between London to Sydney. Follow our handy steps during the flight and after touch-down, just like your man Alen Palander here, for a gorgeous and refreshed start the fall on the right foot.

Step 1: Freshen up your face

Lightweight and fresh, the Greater Look Face Moisturiser is enriched with spirulina and quinoa extracts and infused with Vitamin E, an antioxidant which helps to soften skin that’s become dry and scratchy, giving you an instant shot of rehydration. Simply squeeze out a coin-sized amount into your palm and massage it into your face. Lightweight and non-greasy, it’s a multi-effect formula that will rehydrate as well protecting skin from pollution.

Step 2: Buff up those bristles

Now, you want to give your beard the First Class treatment by massaging a few drops of the the Softer Touch Beard Oil into your facial fuzz – it’s lightweight and non-greasy, leaving you with a tamed and nourished beard. Pro tip: If you do fancy shaving it all off, this also can be used as a pre-shaving oil to increase glide while shaving. And versatile products mean less luggage.

Step 3: Limit the booze

During a flight the barometric pressure in the cabin is lower than it is in most places on earth. This decreased pressure environment reduces the body’s ability to absorb oxygen, so this, coupled with the dryness of the cabin and the diuretic effect of alcohol, can make you feel much drunker than you would with the same amount of drinks on the ground and can dry you out much quicker. So, for this reason, while you’re on the plane, limit your alcohol units and have a glass of water with each drink. Also, minimize how much salty food you’re eating to stop you feeling thirsty and chugging down quicker on the beers.

Now all that’s left to do is sit back, relax and click on that Rom Com – err, we mean, thriller – you’ve been so looking forward to. Bon voyage, boys.
